Cessna-150 is a light utility or ultra-light and basic training general aviation aircraft which is used for training, touring joyrides, recreational and personal use.
The ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) defines general aviation which includes activities like private transport, recreational activities. Aircraft home building, training, flying clubs, charity work, humanitarian aid work and aerial applications are also considered as General Aviation.

The mostly and widely used aircrafts are in General aviation are small, single engine, fabric covered or multi-million custom aircrafts. These also include restored war birds, helicopters, home-built aircraft which are designed to utilize advance composite technology.
General Aviation History
General Aviation did not emerge fully until 1920’s. Before that people were only experimenting with the technology of flight. These experiments later become an integral part of the general aviation. For instance people would use aircrafts for crops treatment, aerial surveying and corporate flying before 1920’s. Similarly the purchasing and selling of private aircraft was also done in the beginning of the flight history. Rich people would purchase aircraft from pioneers of aviation including wright brothers and their rival Glenn Curtiss. Clyde Cessna was also one of the first pilots who started a company. He has a mission of manufacturing and selling relatively cheaper aircrafts for personal use.
Cessna and its followers faced a really difficult time and a lot of struggles during 1920’s and 1930’s. They were trying to make an aircraft that would revolutionize the world. The dream was to make the aircraft available for everyone but the major difficulty was the aircraft engine. Engines were the most expensive part of the aircraft manufacturing in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The less expensive aircrafts that were available were large in size and demanded a larger aircraft body. Smaller aircrafts were expensive and were mostly manufactured in Europe so it was difficult to get them.
However the Cessna certified his first aircraft Cessna DC-6 on 1929. It was mostly used for newspaper delivery, touring and then it was used by United States army Air Corps.
The Cessna-150 is a tricycle gear general aviation aircraft having two seats. The Cessna-150 is the most fifth produced aircraft. This is the most popular civilian plane ever and it has been produced 23839 times. The various models of Cessna-150 include Commuter, Commuter II, Patroller, and the aerobat model.
Development of Cessna-150
The aircraft was developed between 1950 and 1951 after the decision made by the Cessna aircraft company. The aircraft was a more advanced model of the Cessna -140 with an addition of a tricycle gear. The tricycle gear used in the Cessna-150 was easier to learn than the previous tail wheel landing gear model. Also the rounded wingtips and both stabilizers were made advanced and the wing flaps were also replaced flower flaps.
The Cessna-150 prototype took it first flight on 12th September, 1957 and it was successful. After that more aircrafts were made. 1764 were also made by the Reims Aviation under the licensed permission in the country of France. These were labeled as F-150 to depict that they were made in France.
The Cessna-150 was made for only one crew member and one passenger. The aircraft can also manage the weight of two children not exceeding the limit of 54 kg. The length of the aircraft is 7.29 meter and a wingspan of 10.11 meter. The height of the aircraft is 2.59 meter and the wing area is 15 meter per square. The aspect ratio of the aircraft is 6:7:1. The aircraft empty weight is 509 kg, and the maximum take-off weight capacity of the aircraft is 726 kg. The fuel capacity of the aircraft is 22.5 US gal. The power plant of the aircraft consists of 1 continental O-200-A air-cooled horizontally-opposed engine, with 100 horsepowers. The propellers which are used in the aircraft are 2- bladed McCauley metal fixed-pitch propeller. The size is around 5 foot and 9 inch in diameter.
The maximum speed of the aircraft is 109kn, cruise speed 82kn, stall speed 42kn, never exceed speed is 140kn. The range of the aircraft is 420nmi; service ceiling is 14,000ft, rate of climb 670 foot per minute. The take-off and landing run-off to and from 50ft of the aircraft is 1385ft and 1075ft respectively.

The Cessna made numerous changes to the aircraft model but did not use any serial number or model designation. There were changes made to the aircraft almost every year. This can be categorized as material and quality changes and design changes

The paints and other interior changes were made with every model. Just like other industries the Cessna also offered categories like deluxe and standard models and also special editions. The upgraded models of Cessna-150 were called commuters. Special promotions and editions were also offered to promote the aviation industry and flying spirit among the customers. In 1977 a patriotic themed model was also offered named as “Takeoff”. There were a total of sixty different paint schemes.

The design changes increased the efficiency and capacity of the aircraft. However the major noticeable changes were between 1959 and 1963, 1964 and 1965 and 1966 and 1985.
Over the year Changes
The aircraft between 1959 and 1963 use to have fastback fuselage and a straight upright tail similarly like the other classic Cessna-150.
During the years 1964 and 1965 the design of the aircraft was changed with the introduction of a rear wrap around window and it was called Omni-vision however the tails were still straight.
During the years 1966 and 1985 the Cessna-150 was re-designed again with an introduction of the sweep back or slant tail which gave the aircraft a look of going faster but standing still kind of look. After this the Cessna kept the same look.
Apart from that over the years other changes were also made which included the changing of main landing gear from flat steel to a tubular steel design. There were also changes in the landing and the taxi lights. The instrumental panel of the aircraft was also changed in 1967 to a IFR system from the regular round top style of the 1930’s
The Cessna which can be called the best model of Cessna-150 is the 1977 model A150M Aerobat which was French-built with 130HP rolls Royce/continental engine. Similarly, the Cessna-150 made in 1966 was the most plentiful and around 3067 aircraft of that model was produced. The Cessna-150 was very much popular and is still being upgraded to a new model named as Model 162 sky catcher.
