The Cirrus Vision SF50, commonly referred to as the Vision Jet, is an extremely light jet with a single engine that was created and manufactured by Cirrus Aircraft in Duluth, Minnesota, in the United States.
After beginning to accept deposits in 2006, Cirrus revealed a mock-up of an aircraft on June 28, 2007, and a prototype on June 26, 2008. It took off for the first time on July 3, 2008. 2009 saw a slowdown in development because of financial issues. A Chinese company, CAIGA, acquired Cirrus in 2011 and funded the project the following year. On March 24, 2014, the first conforming prototype took flight. Two more prototypes followed later that year. The US Federal Aviation Administration granted a type certificate on October 28, 2016, as a consequence of the test flight program. It was the business jet with the most deliveries from 2018 to 2021.
The pressurized, all-carbon fiber, low-wing Cirrus SF50 features seven seats, cruises at 300 kn (560 km/h), and has a range of more than 1,200 nmi (2,200 km). It had a whole-aircraft ballistic parachute system for use in emergencies.
Its performance has been compared to that of high-performance single-turboprop aircraft in reviews. The Cirrus SF50 Jet, the first licensed single-engine civilian jet, won the Collier Trophy in 2018 for the “best achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America” during the previous year.
