The Agusta updated the family many times for decades as a stand-alone entity and part of the Agusta Westland. Its first flight was way back in 1988. The introduction of this aircraft was held in 2005, and it still has an active service and production. It was developed from Agusta A109E Power. 

The company unveiled different variants of A109 before it became Agusta Westland. In 1976, A109A started deliveries wherein it was considered a market innovation during that time. Thanks to the redundancy and speed provided by the twin engines.

The Agusta AW109S Grand Turbine Helicopter is lightweight and can accommodate six passengers, even though it usually holds five in passenger transport. It has three rear-facing bench seats and two armchair seats. Two Allison 250-C14 turboshaft engines power the A109A aircraft. 

The Agusta AW109S Grand Turbine Helicopters can fly between 219 nm to 580 nm. There are still many Agusta helicopters flying today. As of April 2021, around 535 Agusta Westland/ Agusta Grand turbine helicopters are flying worldwide, per JETNET. With 165 units, the A109S Grand has the biggest in-operation fleet. AW109 Trekker, the variant of Agusta AW109S Grand Helicopter 

The AW109 Trekker is inspired by the AW109/ Grand range of helicopters. The aircraft features skid landing gear, cocoon-type airframe, crash-resistant fuel system, and similar size cabin as Grand/ Grand New versions. 

This aircraft can be equipped with a 272 kg external rescue hoist, 1,400 kg cargo hook, external loudspeakers, searchlight, video downlink, and forward looking infrared radar. It also features emergency floats and snow skis to meet different operational requirements. Its maximum take-off weight of about 3175 kg without external load and 3200kg with external loads. Meanwhile, the useful load is over 1,500 kg. 

The model also features a modern Garmin G1000HTM glass cockpit that is specifically designed for single-pilot operation. The cockpit comes with two 10.4 display units, the Multi-Function Display (MFD) and Primary Flight Display (PFD). 

It has an ergonomic design and high visibility cockpit to provide pilots with the required data to reduce their workload. The aircraft also has an option for a third 10.4-in screen that can serve as the PFD of co-pilots. It is equipped with more innovative technology for its maximum performance.
